Dublin Airport 05/03/15

Hello all,

For my 28th birthday, I was treated to a return flight from Bristol to Dublin for the day for some airport photography. The outward trip was on a ATR42 EI-EHH in CityJet livery, and the return was on a ATR72 EI-FCZ both with Aer Lingus/Stobart Air/whatever they are called this week. Never been on an ATR before, but certainly was an entertaining ride, especially on the way back with turbulence on take off!

They stop on a sixpence too!! Only used a quarter of the runway at Bristol to turn off at the first exit, but then we were thrown out our seats as the brakes were slammed on with reverse thrust and air brakes!

Not yet looked at the photos, but will asap. I've not had one of those ATRs yet but they do look fun!

They're unusual, well, for many reasons, but not least because you board from the back (and on multi-cabin flights, business class is usually at the back as a result).

I quite like them, as puddle-jumpers go. They're quite slow, though - and you definitely feel the turbulence going into DUB (flew SEN-DUB last October, on Stobart Air for EI).

You don't see that them often. Have been on a few on regional flights in India, and a handful in Central Europe.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable flight both ways with Aer Lingus and I've chosen to fly with them again when I return to Dublin next month.

Your album is great! The 787 at Bristol is nice too. I hope you put up a lot more in the future. Train shots too perhaps!

That was a 757 by the way, you'd be lucky to see a 787 at Bristol!

Oh yes, that curvy Thompson livery made me think of the 787!

Great set of photos there! Dublin is quite a neat hub really.

Can't say I'm a massive fan of the EI Regional ATRs, probably my least favourite of the newer generation turboprops. I find them boxy to look at and for a newer generation craft noisy on take off, slow in cruise and slow to board/alight (one door at the rear and half the plane has to stay seated when the plane arrives on stand to keep it balanced). Also been diverted away from Birmingham when the crosswind was too much for it. Give me a Saab 2000 or Dash 8 anyday! But I hear they're cheap and sturdy which the airlines like and they're ok for short hops!

I was just watching a video of a First Choice/Thomson 767 landing at Bristol, it did seem awfully close. But also the Monarch A300 seemed to land without any issue. Apparently the largest aircraft to land in Bristol is an Aer Lingus A330! I am still very suprised that Bristol Airport seem confident that a 787 and A350 can operate from there (Without runway extension). Althoug in theory a 747 could operate from Bristol (If emptyish)
