drug and alcohol test

Hi everyone, I have a quick question.
I recently applied for an operative role outside of the track with Network Rail. I’m wondering if a drug and alcohol test is part of the pre-assessment process? Also, what kind of assessments should I expect if I'm offered the role?

At the moment, my application status says "under consideration."

You will get drug and alcohol tested at your medical, and randomly from there on out. Also if you have any safety incidents it will usually mean a ‘for cause’ D&A test. I try and leave a clear 24 hours free of booze before a shift - it is absolutely not worth losing your job because you fancied an extra beer the night before.

If D&A testing is a concern, and the thread title suggests it is, I’d carefully consider lifestyle choices, and whether this is the industry for you.

Booze needs to be carefully controlled (the blood alcohol limit is 1/3 of the car driving limit - so effectively zero, the same as for airline pilots) and using anything beyond alcohol will see you “down the road” PDQ.
