It is beleived that DRS may have placed or be placing an order for some eurolight locomotives following the gaining of some new work.

I heard about this to, i seen a youtube clip of one and they do sound like a Class 67! i also read or heard can't remember which one but they going to replace DRS Class 66's and maybe the Class 47/57's

:roll:another micro fleet

Yes, they should order 64 instead, and go out of business.

I would imagine an agreement has been made with DRS to purchase them below book price in order to get a small foothold in the UK market. Should they be then successful, you potentially have not only a follow on order from DRS, but have also hopefully captured the attention of other operators as well.

Whats a micro fleet?

I think it mean where only 1 company is operating a small fleet of locomotives.

I suppose freightliners class 70's being an example. Perhaps you could include the class 59's since there are not that many of them and they are slightly different from the class 66's.

A micro fleet is probably more of a problem for a TOC than a FOC.

Besides, the Vossloh kit is pretty much an updated 67. I'm sure anyone who can look after a GM can keep a Eurolight going.

Its far better to buy in small batches to test the water than go in full guns and buy loads that will either not be used or become redundant when you find the locos are complete kack.

It takes an operator with a bit of balls to be the guinea pig for new stock and you will probably find the other operators keeping a close eye on things ready to invest when the prices come down and the initial teething issues are resolved.

Indeed- though the approach BR took at "dieselisation" of commisioning lots of small fleets of a wide rande of locos, running them for a few years and ordering lots more of what worked whilst scrapping what didn't isn't viable these days

It is also supposed to be a lot lighter than the 67's

It does actually look nice, unlike the class 70's

Their size and work output seems to be increasing so probably looking at an investment for the future.

For a traction enthusiast like myself "micro fleets" are great news, any new class that doesn't look like a Class 66 is a mini godsend!

I take everything back about GM engines, it seems the Eurolight has a CAT engine.

Microfleets IMO are only really stupid when it's a formerly large fleet split between a load of different TOCs, for example the 321s at London Midland, retaining 7 from a massive fleet.

Remember that the 66s effectively started off as a microfleet. And some other TOCs might be looking for new locos soon, maybe this company could come up with somthing that could pull a 390 at 100mph...?
