It's not a problem being away its just I thought it said in the information that came with the application that all training was done at Carlisle.

How is everyone finding the practice material that was sent out? I'm ok with most of it having previously sat and passed the national assessment but I'm finding the maths challenging.

Knocked back today. Irritating to say the least, especially as I've just found out today that I haven't got a full-time job doing the job I've been doing for the last three months.

Northern, it's over to you...

If you have 5 knockbacks you must be doing something wrong on your application surely?

Constant knock backs usually means it's time to get a job in a TOC/FOC as something else first that must also appeal, then apply for Driving later. Not all roles are primarily about dealing with Customers, and some roles never even see the public.

Why does the guy need to reconsider and apply for a platform job or something else in a station just because he has had 5 knock back? Never heard so much crap, I take it your going on your own experience having applied for a drivers job several times and failed?! I know several drivers who got knock backs but just kept the faith and kept plugging away and finally it came good and they got what they wanted, have to be in it to win it!

Never said it had to be platforms.

My experience was that I applied and failed several times but I got there in the end. The applications I made when I was outside the industry where, to be honest, a complete waste of time.
As soon as I got in a TOC and made a few applications, I started to get a response, and it wasn't too long until I finally "made it" as a (Depot) Driver.

You made it as a depot driver, a position which you never wanted, you wanted a drivers position. Why should the guy settle for a job in a station or second best as a depot driver when the position he wants is a mainline driver?! Good luck to the lad hope he lands the job and proves it can be done.

Good for you. If you dont mind me asking which depot did you apply for?
The rest of us will now spend the rest of the week staring at our phones hoping for that magic call.:D

Well done to those that made it through. It was a tough day and I don't think anyone was too confident afterwards. I applied for Grangemouth with Motherwell being my other choice. They said that there were no places at Motherwell just now as they have just taken on 5 qualified drivers. Who knows what the future holds. I'm just focussing on getting the job anywhere for now. Anyone have experience of interviewing with DRS that could share some words of advice?

I think if I mentioned my experience of DRS Interviews it would scare potential applicants away. Just to say it was the worst and hardest interview ever.

Got the phone call this morning for Carlisle/Crewe , interviews early September.
So guessing the earlier posts were for Grangemouth.

Beveridges, could you share your experience of the interviews with DRS, i have read many threads and posts about the subject of interviews but i think your knowledge would be invaluable. Cheers

ok, just finished my interview half an hour ago and have to say think it went ok. well in my head it went ok. just kept referring to health and safety in my answers, think they liked it. woman named Lorraine took details then had interview with man and woman but cant for the life of remember their names. the woman took me for interview at assessment stage but cant remember name. interview honestly wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. will keep you posted with outcome, they reckon a couple of weeks. or if anyone has any questions, i will try and help.
