There’s no evidence to suggest they are getting rid of all of their older stuff. As you say 37/4s have just been returned. What there is evidence of is they are building up a fleet of mixed traffic locos – 37/4, 57/3, 68, 88, and disposing of many of their others. I know whether DRS has a strategy or not is an emotive issue for some but they look as though they are trying to establish themselves as the main player in a niche market that other FOCs don’t want to or can’t compete in. Which seems quite sensible when you look at what has happened to freight.

Really? Only 12 months ago they were refurbing 37/4's that looked certain for scrap.

I did say medium to long term! :roll: The refurbed 37/4s will be around for a while yet, unless apocalyptic reliability plagues them at some point.

I would imagine the 37's are here to stay. Using 68's on leafbusting duties is a bit moot when most of the fleet will be on hire to Chiltern and TPE.

The stored 57/0s are ready to call on if such locos are required in future ....

Why are the 57/0's in storage and the 57/3's being used?

37409 is sanctioned heavy exam and I believe that will be the last one to receive one. Unless things change of course.

With the 47s dumped, 37s cut and the 20s in 9 month storage the heritage fleet is taking a hit. Also, the 5x 20 requirement will probably reduce for 2017's RHTT, seeing as anything can work one of the diagrams with 20s only required for Sheffield etc.

Do believe after passenger ops are taken into account, there will be 10x 88s and 10x 68s available for generic work?
