DRS (or ex-DRS) Mk3s

I saw on social media yesterday that the 125 group have purchased another three MK3 loco-hauled coaches from DRS, to restore and add to the 3 they already operate with 41001.

I'd forgotten that DRS even had some MK3 coaches, but it did get me wondering why they chose to use MK2 stock for the Cumbrian Coast and Anglia contracts, rather than the MK3s?

I imagine there's a simple answer but if anyone could enlighten me, I'd be very interested.

Given that DRS only had seven Mk 3 coaches, 'not enough of' is one answer! I do remember talking to DRS about their Mk 3 stock and whther it would be returned to service, and the reply was if there was a business case to do so.

I have heard that the Anglian short set contract ends this weekend with both sets going back due to the end of the summer timetable they aren't required any longer

68s are going, by all accounts the 37s are staying.

Yes it can, though only ECS between Maryport and Carlisle unless bars are fitted to the droplight windows or there's a steward by each door. Same restrictions as mark 1 or 2 stock.

68s are going, by all accounts the 37s are staying.

As I recall, the 37's are contracted until 2018/19 and have a regular dedicated diagram during the weekdays which doesn't change throughout the year.

37s are driven by GA crews, but they are not trained on 68s. 68s have DRS staff, so are more expensive.
