As I understand it, DRS use MK2 stock on the Cumbrian Coast and Anglia LHCS diagrams.

I've also seen pictures of DRS-liveried MK3 LHCS. Can anyone tell me what they use the MK3s for?

Charters mostly I'm sure. I've had the odd encounter with a rake of some passing through Glasgow Central Low Level one time or another. Gives the Mk2s a reason to live longer and work on passenger services as stand ins I suppose.

The DRS mk3s were run as the Stobart Pullman which didn't last long. Most of the coaches were Mk 3b FOs some of which were refurbed into TSo and now form the Manchester Arriva set I believe.

The only two Mk3 carriages that DRS currently own or operate are DVTs 82101 and 82126.

Indeed, DRS Sold all of their Mk3s to DB Regio before the demise of Cargo D and when DRS was undergoing yet another change of management who decided running passenger trains with ETH fitted locos wasn't their thing. Of course loosing the Initial Cruise Liner express jobs with U.K Railtours didn't help either who switched their traffic across to DBS. During a later change in management, and probably spurred on by a combination of Cargo D folding and another chance to have a crack at the Cruiseliner Express market with Bath Travel and eventually purchased some of Cargo Ds Mk2s. Most of the fleet is now made up of ex Riviera vehicles though!

You mean other than their stored 7 - 11006/11 12047/63/65/87 12134
Brian

I stand corrected - quite right. I think these were obtained to form a rake for Class 68 testing but were never used?

Maybe they could form another rake for TPE?! ;)

When were these obtained? I thought DRS sold on all of their blue rake to DBR?

Correct, they did those listed above are all still in VT condition I believe. Must be in a pretty poor state after all these years stored

The two DVTs have apparently gone in for reactivation and refurb attention. Wether this is in connection with TPE work starting this december (which no crew training or operational details have yet been released!) remains to be seen. TPE leases the pretendolino but is still being used by GA. if DRS do indeed own further mk3 carriages there is plenty of work available for them!

DVTs not for TPE.

Another one of the DRS mysteries. Why they are hanging on to the Mk3 carriages and not refurbishing them and getting them into revenue earning service, goodness only knows.

Probably to prevent DBC/DBR taking them on and using them! Why DRS all of a sudden seems interested in Mk2s - and using mostly ex Riviera Mk2s is what I'd like to know. I suppose they're perfectly happy having a standard fleet of Mk2s - On ScotRail / Cumbrian Coast and Anglia, but then why purchase and keep these Mk3s in the first place?!

Perhaps, in the very near future, there'll be a need to swap-out units in order to maintain supply?

Eg, rebuild these 7 coaches as power-door HST Mk3s for Scotrail or loco-hauled Mk3s for the Banbury crowd-buster.

Swap them over with the next 7 and so on.

A game of musical carriages. In the end they are left with the final 7 carriages - having earned leasing fees for the entire period for doing nothing.

Interesting thought, but I'd say a non-starter I'm afraid.

Speculative purchase - a year or so ago, they said they would be reactivated if/when there was a business case to do so.
