I can only talk of the DRS ones that are being/have been overhauled at RVEL. No TDM equipment is left on them, all the cab equipment is removed, including the entire drivers desk, and when replaced, it is standard blue star, together with updated safety systems such as GSM-R, TPWS, OTMR etc.

Well never knew that, cheers mate. Thought they where as we left them after their IC/AR days.
No, when RVEL get their hands on them they are pretty well stripped of everything forward of the guard's compartment, the M/A and major air con components are renewed, large areas of rot are cut out and replaced (mostly around both vehicle ends) and then overhauled or brand new kit is fitted.

It is not just a wash and brush up, in fact 9710 has has most cab panels replaced almost up to the observation lights (windscreen to the heathens lol). They are getting a thorough and high quality overhaul and upgrade.

They surely need that overhaul, considering how bad they were in Anglia days followed by 9-10 years of sitting around!

Is the passenger accommodation still as was?

What's in the guards compartment?

9714 sticks in my mind not only because the driver-guard buzzer & AWS where wrong way round, but because it was involved in my first fatality incident.

At the moment the pass comp is stripped, will get new floor, new carpet, and retrimmed seats. The seats in 9707/5 are the same as the ones when I worked GatEx, if someone knows the technical description for them

Toilet is removed and decommissioned.

What's in the guards compartment?

Only alteration in Guard's compartment is three connections from CDL controls to OTMR which is in the cupboard in the luggage area.

When the DBSOs first were introduced they workes using TDM with modified 47s for Scotrail and used the same system until retirement from Anglia, but the DRS DBSOs have blue-star mods and the Chiltern DVTs (also the Arriva DVTs???) have AAR mods, do these mods get rid of the TDM MW or supplement it?

GM228

Which 47s could use TDM? When the 47s were working the Great Yarmouth turns a while back, they were for a while using 2 coaches and a DVT sandwiched between a pair of 47s because the 47s couldn't work with a DVT.

47701-17 were TDM fitted for the Scottish services

Very few remain with the TDM, possibly 5? 47712 has recently been restored complete with TDM although I'm not sure if the TDMs are just dummmies or actually working.

DBSO 9710 will, apparently, be outshopped in Northern livery when completed by RVEL.

I do wonder if, in time, history will repeat itself and a Mk3 DBSO or seated Mk3 DVT will happen, as per the Porterbrook spec.....

http://www.porterbrook.com/downloads/brochures/Mk3%20Brochure.pdf

I thinks that's highly unlikely an expensive option for rolling stock with a limited life. If the Anglia MK3 sets were retained long term them maybe but that seems unlikely as MK4 would likely be available even if new EMU's are not opted for on this route.

Just because Porterbrook want to flog a dead horse like the railbus doesn't mean its going to happen.

Its pretty amazing that these clapped out old DBSO's are being dug out as it is but I suppose its better than the motley T&T solution as at present

Having seen them and shunted them in Eastleigh, I'm not surprised. They really really were bordering on Major Overhaul with a lot of new metalwork or the bin. I remember seeing how much of the front of them was just paint with little metal underneath too - Mind you, they've not had the smoothest of life's since ScotRail - The corridors were only externally removed in their early Anglian days leaving a lot of it including the former cab door behind a sheet of metal. Not sure if the DRS DBSOs are having what's left of them removed but the Network Rail ones I've moved have had theirs removed which has not only helped remove some of the areas of rot but more importantly for the driver, given him or her a much wider, better laid out cab. Still have cab access similar to a PEP design unit though but that's probably a result from their former layouts of the Mk2 BSO.
