I'd hope it IS AAR, rather than similar.

When I said similar to, I meant compatible with, i.e. basically the same system. My logic in wording it like that was that AAR stands for American Association of Railways, and 68s are not designed by an American company, while 67s were. :P

I really do wonder how much they paid for 47712, I wouldn't mind acquiring one for the ELR, I know we already have one - but we need to stop the endless moaning about how many 37s we have...*

* It's not possible to have enough 37s in my opinion.

Was at Crewe on Saturday to check something out in the area when I spotted 37402 & 37607 - I didn't realise until I got home and ran the numbers through the system that I haven't seen 607 before and hadn't seen 402 since the BR days... For a change, a reasonable amount of success at Crewe :D

UPDATE (03/05/13 - 06:21)
47747 was dragged round to Crewe DMD yesterday, and its road transport collected it immediately, I last received a report of it being in the Mansfield area around 6pm last night. Enroute to CF Booths Rotherham :(

UPDATE (04/05/13 - 09:21)
For those wanting more information about the Class 68s
http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/...tml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
UK: The first of 15 Vossloh UKLight diesel-electric locomotives for freight and charter train operator Direct Rail Services is now under construction at the Vossloh España plant near Valencia in Spain.
DRS expects the first locomotive to be sent to the Velim test circuit in the Czech Republic for trial running in September, and the second to arrive at DRS’s Crewe depot by the end of October to start the UK approvals process. Vossloh is already supplying DRS with telemetry data from the two pre-series EuroLight locomotives currently running in Germany and Italy.
Designated Class 68, the UKLight is based on the EuroLight freight and passenger locomotive family which Vossloh unveiled at InnoTrans 2010. Intended for both freight and passenger operation, the 21·5 tonne axleload Bo-Bo will have a 2 800 kW Caterpillar C175 engine and AC traction equipment supplied by ABB.
Differences from the EuroLight design include a smaller-profile to suit Britain's more restricted loading gauge, a higher top speed of 160 km/h rather than the 140 km/h and an increase in fuel tank capacity from 4 000 litres to 5 000 litres.
The Class 68’s mixed-traffic capability means that it is likely to undertake a wide variety of duties for the operator. DRS says it would be capable of ‘at least matching’ the performance of its EMD Class 66 fleet on intermodal services, which include daily time-sensitive flows between southern England and Scotland over the West Coast Main Line operated in partnership with logistics group WH Malcolm.
DRS also remains hopeful of expanding its passenger operation, which is currently focused on the charter train market. It is in negotiations with the Department for Transport and franchised passenger operator Northern over the potential launch of scheduled passenger trains along the Cumbrian Coast line in northwest England, which serves the Sellafield nuclear engineering complex.
DRS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the UK government’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

And another update, 47747 is now at Booths.
Thanks, Sam

More changes have happened over the past few days:

20307 and 37406 have been scrapped, 47791 and 37411 are next.
47841 and 57002 are getting repainted strangely at eastleigh. 57311 is now in DRS colours just leaving 308 in VT colours.
47747 is now at booths as boothy97 mentioned in his post, it is now de-registered from the XHHP pool leaving 37422 in that pool.

37422 is now regarded as having a questionable future! Currently awaiting developments regarding 47839, no news yet. And there is no other news with the DRS fleet, but 37606 did work the Grangemouth-Prestwick colas tanks today, as the Colas 66 was playing up!

This is the current picture at CF Booths Rotherham

37422 on the comeback

And from the WNXX news page
Noted being shunted around by 57008 at Kingmoor today was 37422 (XHHP). Devoid of internals, reportedly a refurbished power unit is available for it, it looks like it has recently been repainted internally.

Thanks, Sam

Any idea when 57308 will be repainted?
Also, is the Glow-ex dead in the water now? It was supposed to start at this timetable change.

Sorry, just know a lot about general uk traction. Don't know about drivers there, but I think they work intermodals and charters
Thanks, San

Does anyone have any information about the Sellafield Flyer/Glow-Ex (whichever one it goes by ha!) ? Would be great if that service started; may take a trip to Cumbria just to ride and photograph it :P ha!

Deemed to expensive, and with no one willing to find it, it has quietly fallen by the wayside. Was just too good to be true :(

DRS operate charter trains, and I know its been mentioned numerous times in magazines that they are looking at operating charters with there own stock. There is also general passenger (hire to TOCs) use, with various TOCs having train shortages, for example there has been a tender leased for around 2 years for hire of extra carriages to First Great Western.
Maybe a case of waiting and seeing, but fingers crossed they see use sill in that fresh paint.

Thanks, Sam

Is that official? And has the refurbishment of the stock for it been completed then?

From what I've heard, no one can come to a decision as to who should fund it; DfT, Northern Rail or BNF (Owners of Sellafield Nuclear Power Station I believe)

Only some of the stock has been refurbished. Those refurbished are;
Standard Opens: 5810 (still at Eastleigh Works), 5971, 6001, 6008, 6117, 6122
Standard Brake: 9525
First Brake: 17159

Thanks, Sam

Does anyone happen to know what was carried out in the refurbishment? Was it a repaint and mechanical overhaul, or have they done some work on the interiors too?

Would be interesting to find out if anyone knows...

Thanks. If the stock isn't ready yet, the question of who should fund it perhaps isn't so urgent, though I hope they can resolve matters.

Thats what I was thinking. As long as it gets use, thats the main thing :D
Thanks, Sam
And shows ATW up as idiots for throwing away their mrk2s rather than doing what DRS are doing and getting DBSOs to run with their mrk2s (I'd guess a DBSO would make a huge difference to value for money of LHCS versus top&tail or a thumping great seat-less DVT).

Mist of those Mk2s were last used for the Valley Lines loco hauled a number of years ago, and were in a state. Majority have gone to EMR Kingsbury for disposal

I think 37059 has completed its repairs at Barrow Hill, is it true. Also, what is happening to 37069 and 510. I haven't heard much about them recently?

37059 is still at BH. I'm off there today so shall get some photos, apparently its awaiting transfer
37069 still at Crewe GB, not heard anything on it recently but it (and 059) should become shunters at DIRFT
37510 seems to have a bit more of a greater future now, as I've heard it could be bound for use as part of HNRC's fleet. Not sure though.

Thanks, Sam
