Hearing that DRS will be providing two hauled sets for Fife from May, morning and evening turns.

Using which traction? Top-and-tail 37s or 68s?

All their 47s apart from 3 for GA and one for NB are being placed into warm storage apparently, their 57s aren't exactly covering themselves in glory right now and they are short on DBSOs... and I imagine the 68s are in demand for various duties.

They don't need top and tail as the diagram runs through Edinburgh to Newcraighall where they can shunt round in the 8 hours between the morning and evening runs.

AFAIK, 68s, especially as the 37/4s are essentially going to tied up on Anglia and Cumbrian turns.

talking of which, what's happened to the Mk 3 stock that DRS were supposedly going to use on trialling the 68's, including the spare Virgin DVT?

The Fife turns have always been hauled in the normal way without any sort of driving coach, even way back in the late 1980s when BR was chucking out any sort of freight 26 or 47 on Mk1s and 2s for a spin around the circle. I don't see why it should be any different with DRS.

Expect some moves of their newly acquired Mk2s over the next few days/next week.

Indeed, a few more have headed down to Eastleigh from Barrow Hill for overhaul and refurbishment.

I wonder if this partially comes down to the quality of the DBS Mk2s which failed a recent inspection and had to be refurbished at the expense of DBS. It'll also put more pressure on them to find another use for the already depleted 67s after the Caley Sleeper & Chiltern jobs.
