DRS Dungeness flask trains

I've just moved to a flat very close to the South London Line and have seen the nuclear flask train go past a few times (this evening for example).

Can anyone tell me, do these run to a regular timetable, or just as and when they are needed?

If there is a timetable, would anyone be able to let me know what days/times they are scheduled to run along the SLL?

They run as and when required. Usually at least once a week.
They shouldnt be on a regular advertised path.
Some people may find out close to the time what the times are, but the whole point is that it isnt advertised. At least, thats how its meant to be.
As i said though, i dont think its on a regular path.

They do run on a regular path, details of the nuclear flask workings can be found in Freightmaster, either in printed form or on the internet. Most of the nuclear workings I know of run once a week, the one I’m most familiar with (Sellafield-Carlisle-Seaton on Tees) tends to run for a period of many weeks before a period where it doesn’t run at all. Some flask workings are more frequent, some less so, depends on demand. The day that they run changes occasionally between periods of operation, but the path remains the same.

The Dungeness nuclear flask train runs as 6M95 16:35 Dungeness-Willesden Brent, and the inbound working is 6O62 02:08 Crewe-Dungeness. As this information is freely available, I think I'm ok to post it!

I stand corrected.
Originally i thought the whole point was that the paths they ran on werent known in advance.
Its certainly only as and when needed though, but usually once a week.

Everything has to be pathed in advance. The only difference is that some freight runs as required, so won't take up all it's available paths. Although there is a lot of hysteria about the safety of the flask trains from some areas, the actual risk is very low. If you could manage to steal a full one then you'd have the material for some nice dirty bombs (although not the best ones, as the best dirty bombs use bioactive isotopes that will be absorbed by the body, and these are more commonly found in medical settings). Actually trying to damage one enough to cause a serious leak would be almost impossible, based on what they are designed to withstand (and contrary to popular belief, smashing a 46 into one is quite tame compared to the real tests) and you'd need some serious armour piercing capability to blow one up.

Oh definitely. They are extremely strong. As you say, they have done a lot more than train bashing with them!!

Is there more than one potential path per week for this working, do you know?

there is a daily WTT path for the trains (both the dungeness and the sizewell).

as mentioned they do not use all these paths as only run as required, but the path is in for every week day should it be needed

Well from my observations so far the Dungeness one seems to run to pretty regular times, although not on a regular day of the week. I've found the DRS-gen yahoo group is the best place to look out for reports of when they are running.

That one hasn't run for years now, there is still one to Sizewell (railhead at Leiston) which runs about once a week but, like the Dungeness one, it does not run on a regular day.

First post on here, but thought I would sign up to say that I was walking my dogs in Northampton last night (29/06/2011 @ 23:00hrs) next to the Northampton loop of the WQest Coast Mainline and I could see in the distance a train coming, but did not sound like the usual diesel or electric freight....

It was a pair of 20's pulling these flasks, heading towards Rugby....could hear them in the distance for mile.
Is this likely to be a regular sighting.

Yes, but it usually runs much earlier than that.

Its been 20 allocated recently and appears to be a fair few flasks from Dung in reccent weeks so I wouldn't expect it to last much longer (could be wrong though) from memory Dung starts to slow down during the summer months AP
