I see the right hand running at Axminster has been dropped and "normal" service started, just shows that the reasons given for the RH running were a load of of <woops matron>. ;)

I'm sure I've seen pictures of steam-hauled trains running wrong line through some of the loops, but a careful scan of available sources reveals them to be modern excursions masquarading, push-pull workings or shunting movements. Looks like I read a bit too much into them.

Having said that, where did they put the tablet-catching equipment on West Highland stations?

Nowhere - they didn't use it!

The new Thameslink trains have a single drivers seat in the dead centre if the cab with all the equipment around them on a curved desk and a second mans chair is behind the driver slightly to the right. I believe this is the first uk train to be designed like this.
Pictures?

I don't have any photos-I didn't go. I only have info from the report the union reps who went to Germany to inspect the designs so far gave us.

I wouldn't imagine that photos were allowed anyway as its still in design stages. The only photos I have seen are computer mock up images from Siemens of the cab but they are a little outdated. They had to change a few of the original designs to meet railway group standards (AWS sunflower, speedo size etc)

I sincerely hope it doesn't follow German practice with a glazed window so passengers can see the driver !!

Me to! Will have to start carrying a bed sheet round to cover the window up if it does! Don't fancy a train load of punters staring at me!

90s and 91s had a combined power/brake handle inside the cab door which enabled them to be moved while at the cab door as it isn't possible to look back from the driving seat. I think they were restricted to a relatively low speed when the panel was being used.

Known - if memory serves me - as "the Mickey Mouse position".

There is right hand running on some of the Highland main line loops and has been for years - to give a straighter run to trains that don't have to cross.
Sorry, only just caught up with this one. I was just referring to the WHL loops, and not those non-RETB ones elsewhere - presumably with a reversible 'main' line?

Sure I've seen that the latest Velaros have dropped the forward view?

as I understand it, being able to see the driver is common in Japan- they've got no blind to close, have to visually acknowledge lineside signals and never know when management might have sat themselves behind them.
