Drivers Rule Book

Hi, new to the forums !

I was a driver on London Underground for 11 yrs, but relocated to Scotland. Tried getting in to Scotrail few yrs ago but failed at 1st interview stage lol
Anyway, just got through the testing again for Glasgow Central, n got my 1st interview again on Wed.
Just in case I get any further this time I've been lookin about for as much info as I can get. I've managed to find out a fair amount about Scotrail, but wanted to start getting ahead with the stock knowledge ( ie, 320, 334 and the new 380's ) but can only find basic stuff !
Anyone know where to dload this info, oh and the rulebook ( is it the ge/rt8000, and if so, what modules do the drivers need to know )

Phew, anyway any dload site would be good, or any drivers live over in Chapelhall could lend me some stuff to read through would be helpful !!

You can download the complete modular Rulebook at the railway group standards website. I am sure one of our helpful drivers would list the modules for you, but I am not so sure it is worthwhile having a gander at for interview. They will be more interested in you! Welcome also!

TW1,2,3,5 and 7,then S1,2,3,4,5 and SP,then M1,2,4,5 and you better look at P1 and 2 as well,that lot should keep you busy for a bit.......

You can read the Rulebook online at www.rgsonline.co.uk I have:
G1,AC,M1,M2,M4,M5,P1,P2,S1,S2,S3,S4,S5,SP,SS1,SS2,TW1,TW2,TW3,TW5,TW6,TW7 and TW8. Some Drivers may carry more modules such as DC,T3 and 'Pink pages'. In addition to this you will have a Sectional Appendix (possibly more than one if you work over other regions), TOC specific publications such as a professional Drivers policy and traction manuals along with anything else they may hand out to you. Traction manuals don't tend to be published online as they are produced by the TOCs operating the traction concerned in them.

Dont try to take it all in at once you will frighten yourself to death

The training is arranged so that you learn it in sizeable chunks to allow you to digest it more easily good luck

I would very strongly advise you against trying to do this. There is absolutely no need to try and 'get yourself ahead'

Too much chance of misinterpretation. You've got a head start anyway, as you have worked in a form of railway environment before.

If you want to get back into the industry, then I would suggest looking at interview techniques and such like. Scotrail won't be interested in your rules/traction knowledge unless you are certified in either and applying for a qualified drivers vacancy.

I have seen sense though, and realised it's not gonna help with the actual interview, it was just something to have a quick look at. Getting nervous about the interview now lol but going to forget about the rulebook etc now and just concentrating on my interview stuff / technique...

I have my interview on thursday for glasgow central? have you been through the interview before and if so could you give me any pointers on what to look into? Have been reading up on the TOC but not really sure if this is all i should do? good luck for tommorow.

They asked me what I knew about Scotrail, and then went on to ask me about previous experiences, but really nit picked into different situations trying to trip me up on procedures and experiences with my previous work ! I did think I had done ok ...

Anyway I shouldnt be giving my opposition tips hahaha !!

I spoke to one of the hr people before my assessments and she says there is a couple of train driver vacancies coming up in glasgow central and also for shields depo so fingers crossed we can get one of them!

Thats nice of you to help out the competition! lol just getting a bit stressed out trying to make sure am prepared for this interview!! will try do some research inbetween the football tonight!!

At least you found out it was the thurs now instead of going a bit early! lol

Have tried and failed to get Main Line Driver jobs before, and have got beaten by less experienced people with less railway knowledge than me *loads* of times, over the Interview. So would say that Interview technique (including planning what your going to say to answer the questions and practicing many times over) is easily the single most important thing you can do to get a railway job if you've already got a lot of railway experience

Hey dude, aye it seemed to go surprisingly well, didn't really ask me anything bout scotrail at all after all that study lol but I kept dropping bits in so they knew I had looked into it. It was more about past experiences n coping n remaining alert during a long shift etc
Actually came out of there quite pleased wit myself as never tripped up on anything n kept goin on bout Safety etc
Well who knows, hope they dont keep us in suspense for too long eh

Same here mate, thoought it went ok but dont really know what the managers thought? answered all the questions they asked confidently ( i think) so just gonna keep my fingers crossed. Did they mention anything about when they would get back to us? Not sure if they said a couple of days or not? gd luck anyway mate.

Think 1 of the other guys said a few days, n the manager said the drivers course was starting 17th Oct so will have to let us know pretty soon as more testing to get through if we pass this stage !
