Why would you wan't one?

They are only available from special railway suppliers, and only given/sold to people who need them.

Because I work on a preserved railway and need access to a few gates to allow on to railway property.

I once had a 97 year old stalker across the road called Elsie. She asked me if trains had keys like cars. I shew her mine (no pun intended!) & she proudly displayed it as an ornament on her mantelpiece until she died.

An unoficial mod to a standard drivers key,there was another slot milled in it allowing it to be removed in the on position leaving the controls open for quick change ends or driver at each end.So I am told ,if you got it wrong
the result was loud bangs and blown fuses,

Another name for it is Jimmying I think, totally unacceptable from a mangement point of view and can also cause problems if the driver taking over does not have a modified key!

What was that joyrider charged with? It sounds like taking a conveyance, but I'm not sure it covers trains.

Presumably TWOC. That covers joyriding in vehicles, so it must be able to apply to trains.
Though I guess endangering the safety of the railway would apply as well.

Apparently they dropped endageriing the safety as he was pretty safe.

Be handy the guard having one because if you left yours at home or dropped it as someone did at paddock wood years ago and another one having to be delivered by taxi.

Ahhh wouldn't have happened back in the good old days of Southern slammers,a decent rounded end BR Tea spoon would open up a desk on an EPB or 63 stock with ease !
