Driver's Eye Views

I will be heading over to Great Britain in six weeks time, and I intend to get at least one or two driver's eye view trips arranged. Does anybody know how to do this effectively?
I phoned FCC last year, and they said that it would take weeks to arrange. I phoned NXEA the same day and they said a simple "No"

Has anybody actually arranged a legal driver's eye view trip? (One arranged with the TOC, and not the driver)

I've had a legal one with c2c before, but that was only coz I am related to the ex-MD and he arranged it. I don't think you will manage to get one I'm afraid.

It's difficult to say the least - most won't take you without PTS. Southern do them for charity events etc, might be worth a try. If not, then off-the-cuff with Driver might be best.

Dont fancy your chances at all. Without PTS you are not going to get a look in, even then you will need a traction inspector with you. Its difficult enough getting cab rides working for NR without cashing in favours.

Sadly, I also think that you will be out of luck. As others have mentioned it is nigh on impossible to get a cab ride if even if you work for the railway - so somebody from outside the industry would have even less chance.

Maybe think about a trip to Switzerland, to the RhB - they even advertise cab rides (it ain't cheap though hock

Technically you dont need PTS if there is a door between the passenger compartment and the driving cab.

Just what we have always been told, Ive yet to have a cab ride with just the driver, there has always been a drivers manager or traction inspector there.

Fair enough, and it's interesting to learnt that you only need PTS if no way into passenger saloon. Although that does explain why people are able to obtain cab rides in MUs a little more easily!

Because the Rules stipulate that you are not allowed to ride up in the cab except in the course of discharging your duties or are the holder of a cab pass. If you are getting a cab ride and are not PTS competent your cab pass will state this together with the requirement that you are accompanied.

There is nothing stated in the Rules about travelling in stock with easy access to the passenger saloon. I expect that this may just be a particular company's policy.

Nigh on impossible...on the GN side of FCC,we arent even allowed to have another driver in the cab with us,unless he/she is route learning or doing pre-driving course front end turns.

And yes,an inspector would have to be present.

You do not need PTS to have a Cab ride. You need to be accompanied by a person who holds a green cab pass (authorised to assess/Instruct) traction inspectors (DM's) and driver instructors hold these. If i remeber rightly the only clause is that you need to be briefed on Cab discipline before entering the cab. However, this only happens in special circumstances and for a valid reason. I belive some operators sometime do competitions with the prize being a ride in the cab.
