Of course, but they lockdown everything else on the tablet.

Our iPads aren't locked down as such if we use the DAS app while driving, unless you mean it goes full-screen so you don't get any notifications etc, which I am not tech-literate enough to know

Ours allow nothing whatsoever if DAS (not that I bother using it) is on.

I tend not to use it either for the exact reason that I find looking at a screen while driving to be very distracting

To me its more I cannot bear being told how to drive a train. Such an irritating distraction that I don’t need.

I'll post what I said over a year ago when this was being discussed re. the Bromsgrove derailment:

"I believe the driver of the 66 was indeed dismissed initially but then reinstated on appeal (and given a final warning about phone use).
Given the rather unprecedented and unique circumstances of that evening, plus a prior good record, I would imagine that being the main reason for a successful appeal: normally nowadays any mobile phone incidents are dealt with in a similar way to drugs/alcohol infringements: zero tolerance."

I'm wondering that too. Our new member has a location down as 'Northeast' but i'm certain every TOC up here now uses GSMR and has done for several years.

We don't have GSMR on the current Tyne and Wear Metro stock - I'll presume they work alongside myself.
The new ordered stock will come with GSMR though, albeit only used on Network Rail metals

All phones, tablets etc must be switched off in driving cabs. Even having them on silent is no longer acceptable & ASLEF have been advising for a long while now that there would be nothing they could do to assist any member being stupid enough to do otherwise in a hearing/tribunal.

I think @dk1 has answered the OPs question well here so we will now bring this thread to a close.
