I've been informed drivers on Sprinter units receive no training on doors. Does this mean they are unable to help the guard rectify door faults or isolate where necessary ?

The doors are operated by the guard, driver has no need to help as they'll know what they're doing. That's not to say the driver won't help if they are able though.
At some TOCs it may be the case but at ours they do get trained as they do the door test as part of their prep.
The guard is still in charge of door faults though and the driver might not have the same degree of experience in dealing with them - in particular drivers who don't work morning turns as they won't prep a unit very often. Same as the air con system on 158s whereby the driver has nothing to do with it. More than once I've turned up to my train to find the driver struggling with door issues during prep and I've had to sort it out for them. Class 153 in particular have temperamental doors but most issues can be managed fairly easily if you know how.
A general rule of thumb I was taught - if its above the solebar, its the guards responsibility and not the drivers. Our drivers are able to operate the doors for prep and so on but any problems in service and they normally leave it to us to try fix. Same for air-conditioning and other above sole bar issues - unless it requires TMS involvement to fix, since only drivers where I am are allowed touch that.
