You are high and mighty, you posted about "seeing drivers like you come and go" about me because I posted a few comments on an internet forum and you think you know what sort of person/driver I am from that!

Sorry I mentioned the age thing. Personally I think it's sort of appropriate. For example you can drive a bus on local routes under 50 km aged 18. But most coach companies won't take on a driver under 25 with little or only bus driving experience. In a similar way the tube has had 18 year old tube operators, but I don't think Eurostar would entertain a 21 year old driver !

I am not rowing with you 455 and I wasn't asking you the question and the reason i made made that comment was your blatant quote of the length of time you had been a driver that was incorrect if you recall! I won't ask for a vote on what sort of person you seem to come across as on a internet forum

I started on the course aged 20, but before I'd driven a mainline train I was 21. Apparently you can start the course as young as 20 and a half but it is almost unheard of, I get the impression most TOCs tend to take on older people (mid thirties onwards) for the 'life experience' but will sometimes take on younger ones.

It happens a fair bit-there were a few southeastern drivers who got the trainee drivers jobs at 19/20 and had to sit about for a couple of weeks at the end of their training (use a bit of annual leave or sit on shed) until their 21st birthday. Some companies do it a lot with internals especially. The TOC I worked in HR with did it quite a lot.
