I was speaking to a driver recently who told me that you can now take the tests more than 2 times! Can anyone confirm this.

P.S

The driver was a manager.

Cheers.

Yes you can.
There's lots of information on here if you use the 'search' function

It was on the lines of "you can take it as many times as is reqd" I'm a guard and I've never heard this before.

Don't think that info is correct.
This is what I believe to be the case...
If you attempted and failed any of the tests under the old standard (ie before about Nov last year) then these fails are now wiped from your record and you can have a max of 2 further attempts on the new, updated tests.
This was confirmed by the assessor when I took the tests recently so I have no reason to think this is not correct

Sorry! Mis-read what you wrote. No you can only take them twice. If you've taken them before and failed (before oct 13) your slate will be wiped clean and you'll be given another 2 shots. As red mentions this was made clear by the OPC

To be pedantic you can take them as many times as you like providing you keep passing them. However as per the old system you only have two lives so if you fail twice that is it.

I think the fail twice and it's party over is a nonsense. The first time I applied for a trainee driver was 2003 I didn't get the job, I could have applied again back then and failed twice(I didn't)..... fast forward to the present I'm a completely different candidate with much more experience and I believe I fulfill the criteria.
I believe if you fail twice you shouldn't be allowed to try again for a certain time period.

Bit confusing all this I failed Mecanical test on the 08/10/13 passed the rest of stage 1, however going off previous posts I presume I have 1 life left, even though I have to redo the 3 tests they kept and binned the mechanical test, so you get punished twice lol, it should have been when u do the new tests u have 2 attempts not certain dates, as if there changing the goal posts we should all be on the same page

So are you saying you lost a life on the new style tests?
Because if the test you sat was the old version then you now have 2 lives left again?
