That's not SDO. That's just locking off a door.

Ah OK - was just something I have seen (on a number of occasions on that line) and the sign on the short platform said "SDO" so I put 2 and 2 together :P

Am I correct in thinking there is some stock where SDO involves standing at the rearmost doors to be allowed to open and selecting for all in front of the panel to open? Could be HSTs though I can't remember.

Also, how does SDO work on 180's as Grand Central have to make good use of it at places like Pontefract Monkhill where in the down direction, I know the back was off the platform but the front could have been as well

On the 180 the driver can select the number of vehicles they want to open from 1 to 10 from the front. They also have the facility to isolate the doors on a set at the rear of the train by using the 'Trudy' (Trailing Unit Door Isolation) switch. This is handy when a set is at the rear but isn't being used for passenger accommodation.

Why are we discussing it as a spad in earlier posts? I can't see any mention by op whether the signal at the station end was on safe or danger....

Assuming the original incident was on the GE Metro (the timing is right) then the signal was off, no SPAD.

Not always - HST is either from the front or from the back. For example, on the Aberdeen/Inverness runs when heading Up the front hangs off the end of the station to put as much Standard on as possible (and luggage/bike storage). I'm not sure if fGW SDO works the same way

But on HSTs the guard is responsible for the doors and will be working from the first released/open door, we are talking about driver operated doors but if you want to go onto a different form of working all together please feel free to start another thread!

hit the end of the platform at 12mph as it was so slippy going in, by the 4 car mark had her in step 3 brake, emergency a coach or so later as I knew it wasn't stopping. Slid off the end doing a mighty 3.6mph according to the download!

Dont you feel absolutely useless as the train just goes on and on, I remember the first time it happened to me, I was shaking like a leaf afterwards.

May I ask, why would the release have to be given from the front cab of coach 9 as opposed to the back cab of coach 8, which would be on the platform?

Because thats the way the suits decided it has to be.
