Driver or Driver Op

If a Driver got his letter informing him of his position within a company before a Driver Operator did, but started the training later than the Driver Operator and so finished the training later.

Would a Driver Operator be entitled to claim a Drivers rate of pay for the whole time that the Driver has been a Driver? Yes/No?

Where does seniority start from? The letter date or the date of the first driving turn on the footplate?

It depends who you work for some do it from the day you were employed and others do from the day you passed out in that grade.
the best thing to do is speak to your line manager.Dont forget you are only a driver from the day you pass

Seniority in grade, starts on the day when a person is passed out to carry out the duties, because permanent appointment is subject to attaining the requisite Competence.

Examples

Trainee Driver 1 starts on 10th, Trainee Driver 2 on 12th. Trainee Driver 1 is the senior in service.

Trainee Driver 2 passes out on 24th Driver 1 on 25th. Trainee Driver 2 is the senior because he attained the requsite Competence to undertake the duties before Trainee Driver 1.

Its an on track machine term IE they drive the tamper and operate it.

Sorry but a Driver Operator in this case is with the freight operating company DBS.

The clue is in the user name here, The_Pilot.

I mostly drive a Class 08 or a Class 66, other duties include shunting, etc, in the freight yard.

I think for my case it could be either or of your examples, i'll need to find out from ASLEF where I stand here i think. They should know for sure.
