Yeah I am interested in this one too.

All I know is there are dials and you have to take a few factors into consideration to work out which one isn't working?

The test assesses the ability to think logically, check details, make effective decisions, follow instructions and work under time pressure in order to find and solve faults on a train.

The test consists of 20 diagrams of a new and innovative train system. For each diagram candidates are also presented with the display panel showing different instruments and dials for that particular train, some technical information about the train and a fault finder guide.

The fault finder guide contains information about what to do once you have identified a fault as well as the order of priority for solving faults. Candidates must utilise all of this information to decide which faults to solve, (they only have time to solve the top two faults). They must then identify a code for solving the fault and any other action that may be required to solve the fault.

Hi if you are lucky enough to get a practice paper for the dfft test then you are in luck. The test on the day is exactly the same in principle! just different pictures and information to read through. If you do the practice paper several times and really digest the principle of reading information on one sheet and then checking on another and then marking you answer on the answer sheet then on the day you'll ace it. Most companies don't give this practice paper out, except lorol!

good luck

I just passed it the other day and it was the most stressful I thought out of all the tests. You have like 4 booklets to crosscheck information and prioritise the problems. Its something like 20 diagrams in 15 minutes (or something equally wierd) so almost impossible to finish the test

Well done,

What position was that for ? Did you do the fault finding test instead of the mechanical one or did you have to do that as well?

Any clues to where these practice papers are hiding? Can't find a specific LOROL one, however have been working through a fault finding tests with similar concepts.

Anyone who has recently been on driver assessment at lorol might be able to help, and sorry I don't have the paper. I only saw it on the day of my assessment about 2 years ago, another applicant had it on him.

Hello, how many questions did you manage to complete? In my assessment day it ranged from just 6 - 10 out of the 20!

I managed to complete 8.

Old post i know but does anyone actually know what a good pass mark is at this stage?

I just completed the test today and I'm very anxious as to how I did.

Don't they usually inform you on the day at the assessment centre?

Which TOC did you both take the assessments with?

Had the assessment yesterday for TPE. Think i managed about 7/8, but realised i'd been misreading one of the instruments, so had to go back and correct a few bits! Pretty sure that messed it up for me. No idea what the pass mark will be, but surely for TPE it can't be as low as something like 5-7 when there's 20 questions! Anyway i'm not hopeful, but oh well! Best of luck to all!

It depends how they do things. I hope they are just trying to eradicate those with no fault finding skills at all as apposed to this being the main sift. I'm a skilled professional (electrical) so I should have breezed that test. I found it very easy but I just took a bit too much time in making sure I was 100% accurate which comes naturally to me. I'm kicking myself now but I suppose it depends if those who got more finished were accurate.

She did say something about the more that pass the better because it gives them more to choose from but I guess they don't want to pay for 200 full assessments when they can do 100!

Is the fault finding test the same across all TOCs? I have applied for EMT and the practice material they have sent is the dials with 3 colours relating to priority, I'm guessing this is just a less complicated version of the test they'll give on the actual day?
Thanks

No thats part of the trainability test. TRP2 I think. Its a lot different to the DFFT but essentially still fault finding.
