Driver despatch Tottenham Hale

Even if hardly anyone uses it, I bet there'd be outrage if anyone tried to close it!

Now that there's the huge Tesco and Ikea opposite, if the station was ever modified and had better access to the stores, it might actually get used all day - but people seem happy with the buses that shuttle you to Tottenham Hale.

I thought the Ikea bus went to Angel Road, shows how much I know!

No, the bus goes to Tottenham Hale. I'm not even sure they still run a bus now, as you can just use a regular bus (albeit having to pay) and it seems pretty frequent.

I know when Ikea first opened, Tottenham Hale had posters pointing out that you couldn't be expected to take your new flat pack kitchen onto the tube!

Oh goodness me. Angel Road... that's the one with a very long series of awkward footpaths to the main road, isn't it?

Yep. Any visitor to the station gets to enjoy a lovely long walk sandwiched between the railway line and a scenic, err, scrapyard.

What is there at Angel Road? Why does the even station exist?

There's actually a lot of housing nearby in the area bounded by Angel Road and Montagu Road, including more than one tower block. There're also several retail parks along the North Circular which would theoretically be walking distance from Angel Road station, with Tesco and Ikea being very close (as jonmorris0844 has already mentioned), yet the barmy walking route to get to/from the station makes them seem much further.

It never used to be like that, though. It was only the construction of the North Circular Road that marooned the station in a tangle of roads and footpaths.

It does get a reasonable amount of use with people going to work along the Lea Valley.

If Angel Road had sensible foot access, it would be a useful station. Especially if the third (and then fourth) Lee Valley tracks are built, so that a proper Lee Valley all-stops (ideally also calling all stations, including Clapton, south of Tottenham Hale- I realise this is tricky) wouldn't interfere so much with the fast Cambridge/Stansted services.

It's interesting in recent times where railway use has gone up greatly certain stations have had their services cut to virtually nothing ,Angel Road ,Beaulieu Road and Teeside Airport are 3 examples having an hourly service not too many years ago

We were delayed tonight (18.25 Liv St to Broxbourne) at Tottenham Hale as there were no platform staff to despatch the train.

The driver had to get out and despatch the train from the middle of the train.

New one on me.

It's often that Platform Staff at Tottenham Hale are spread thinly like too little marmalade over too much toast :roll: When I've been there to fix the ticketing machine, I've had to wait for the guy to despatch a train first before opening the office for me to sign in before I dash to the ticket office...

It's surprising as there's a legion of Revenue Staff at the entrance by the ticket machine, and making sure you 'tap out' with your Oyster card...

You could blame one of my colleagues, perhaps the despatcher was nowhere to be found as he was signing for another Swecoin printer from the courier, that may last a fortnight :roll:

Just to add confusion, TfL and Arriva London like to call Ikea and Tesco bus stop 'Angel Road Superstores' : There was nothing wrong with 'Northumberland Park Tesco' from a few years ago :roll:

The plans to 3 and then 4 track the Lee Valley are fairly advanced. South of Tottenham Hale though is the problem- though if the four track got as far south as Coppermill Junction then services could be dverted via Stratford (as the Stratford-Bethnal Green section will have less trains post Crossrail). But there's also the possibility of Crossrail 2 helping out here.
