Read it all, practice it. That's all you can do. The material Northern sent me was all I needed for my assessment.

Best advice I got...accuracy is more important than speed. Although speed is important it's far better to be spot on.

Also, practice by all means but the tests are designed to filter out those that can pass them from those who can't. Sounds obvious but you can either do them or you can't, they're looking for specific skills and if you haven't got them then the job isn't for you.

If you look at the east midlands trainee depot driver thread there's tons of information about the psychometric tests, group assessment and interviews.

Dress smartly, relax and good luck!

Northern do all psychometric testing in one day, written communication test is not included, standard pass is accepted, no enhanced scores necessary. If you want to find out more about each individual test I suggest you read the how to become a driver thread.

Hi Nick,

Can I ask, did you have your interview with Northern? Did you not say you had a date and then cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances?

Hi Carl, my interview should have been Monday the 22nd of January but it was cancelled. They got back in touch with me a few days later and arranged it for the wednesday 24th.

Well done on passing! I had mine on the 24th too, not heard back yet so I'll brace myself for the bad news! Good luck on your assessments :)

Log in to the northern website and check on there, I know there has been an issue with contacting people

Had my email today confirming that I had passed. Have you got a date for your assessments yet or does it say you will receive a date shortly?

No date yet, someone from HR emailed me saying I'd passed and should receive an email in the next few days.
