Driver application after early retirement?

Hi all,

Does anyone know, if you took early retirement as a Train Driver. Can you apply a few years later again? And would I need to take all my psychometric tests again?

I'd say yes but as for retaking the tests...unsure. I'd imagine it would depend on the time elapsed between retirement and reapplying

You will need to find and read the conditions of your European Train Driving licence which is yours to keep and you should have. In theory if you still have the licence then you are still qualified although traction and route knowledge will have lapsed.

No they took it off me when I took early retirement. Thought I should still be technically qualified though? Thanks 172007

Pension should not be a problem. We have a number of drivers and driver managers who have taken their railway pension with 40 years in, carried on driving and are not paying into a new freshly started railway pension.

40 years is the maximum you can pay in I understand to the railway pension.

Our Toc had given us a handbook and it early states the European Driving licence is ours to keep and belongs to the individual and the ORR. You company from my understanding should not have taken that action.

Did they take your licence because you retired or because of ill health ?

Think the licence has elapsed anyway as it hasn’t been maintained as such with Medical/competence etc.

As others have said the photocard licence belongs to you. The certificate counterpart which details your competencies belongs to the company. The ORR will have been informed of your retirement and the register updated. Your licence is automatically suspended after 12 months and a suspended or withdrawn licence should be sent to the ORR which may explain why they thought they needed to take it from you.

I wasn’t sure exactly how it worked, just thought a chance it could still be valid. Will apply for trainee driver vacancies when they come up. Thanks mate
