Urgh, that WAS disgusting. Couldn't you have consumed something else at that time of day?

Like a ham & cheese sandwich?

:D The lager did cover up the taste of the sandwich quite nicely!

The truth is that I'd spent the night in a reclining seat on the old Hoek to Harwich ferry. I hadn't had much sleep, and I wa svery hungry by the time we got on the boat train. So I didn't really feel like it was breakfast time, and in true BR fashion, the only sandwiches they had stocked up with were egg.

The alcohol helped me to eat, and it then helped me to have a quick nap before Liverpool St., so a double winner. Thoiugh I reckon I'd have nodded off almost as easily without the lager. Incidnetally, it wa svery cold lager, not like the stuff you get these days.

I'm very pleased that the OP thinks some aspects of my past behaviour is / was disgusting.

To be fair, the original context was a question from someone who wanted to take an earlier train than his ticket (an off-peak walk-up ticket, so not even a specific Advance ticket) allowed with the sole intention of drinking.

Slightly different to hitting the Tuborg at 6am at the airport, which I fully intend to do next weekend when I go on holiday

I wouldn't say disgusting, but I do worry about anyone whose need for a beer is so strong that they can't wait.

Your a bit late starting - In Aberdeen and I'm sure a lot of other Ports the Pubs used to open about 4am for Fishermen coming off the boats !! - as someone else mentioned Smithfield, Covent Garden etc probably the same.

At the end of the day we almost have 24 hour provision of many services. If people use these services 24 hours a day they should expect the people providing them to be taking their down time whenever. I work for a company that provides a 24/7 365 days a year service.

I do not work shifts. nor do I drink alcohol (to the person who gave me a link to AA).

I stick to coffee (or an english breakfast tea).

Then i'm not entirely sure why you can find it disgusting.

A couple of trips to Glasgow ago involved a large amount of Vodka on a voyager at 7AM...

I have little memories of the 3 hours on that Voyager, so it had the desired effect!

Well its 0516, I've just finished a week of nights, time to crack open a cold bottle of Sea Fury.

I hope this is acceptable to everyone ;)

I think it would be disgusting if you didn't get to have that bottle of Sea Fury. :)

Are there any rail related ales?

The Beer Engine next to Newton St Cyres station brew there own downstairs.
They do - Rail Ale, Pullman, Sleeper Heavy and a couple of others.
Well worth a visit. Nice food too.

I often wonder how many friends of Bill W are members of this forum. I'm one. Perhaps we should have a RailUK meeting? ;)

There is a brewery in the West Midlands that brews beers with railway related names. I can't think of the name though.
The Bewdley Brewery brews several beers for the Severn Valley Railway, including one named for my favourite SVR engine Sir Keith Park. Is this what you're thinking of?
