Down excess?

Hi guys,

I am travelling later this afternoon and I have got a Off-Peak Day Single between Ashford International and St. Leonards Warrior Square. I have decided to alight at Hastings instead.

Bearing in mind St. Leonards Warrior Square is in Hastings group (according to the Routing guide) is it possible to get a down excess from the guard for the difference?

I know the difference is only 10p but to collect tickets to scan in for Rail UK I want to get an excess printed on the stock.

Is this possible? What do I need to ask for?

You can get an 'overdistance excess' which is the price of a single to cover your extra journey or, if cheaper, the difference between the fare you have paid and the fare due for the longer journey.

Routeing Point Groups make no difference to excess fares rules.

Hastings is before St. Leonards Warrior Square though? Does this mean I cannot get a excess refund for the 10p?

No you cannot.

You can only get an excess where the price of the ticket you need is of equal or higher value to the one you hold. So you can't get a refund if you stop short.

For some reason I had you travelling from the opposite direction, you would be unable to recover the 10p difference.
