Double-decker London bus crashes into front garden

One person was taken to hospital after a London double-decker bus crashed into the front garden of a house.

The 118 Brixton service ploughed through a fence and hit the home in Streatham Vale, south London, shortly before 21:00 GMT on Boxing Day.

Three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The Met Police said no arrests had been made.

Streatham Vale was closed in both directions while the emergency services responded to the crash...

Picture looks dramatic, but fortunately only one person had to be taken to hospital (it's not clear if they were on the bus or not). Hope they are OK.

No indications at this stage as to what could have caused it.

Oh dear, I'm sure a bus in the garden wasn't a Christmas present that would be expected!
But seriously, this could have been so much worse.

Buses colliding with buildings and property seems to happen fairly frequently these days.
Is it becoming more common now, or is it just the impression created due to the fact that an incident is more likely to be reported in the press now ?

Nowadays there's always somebody with a phone to take a picture and a news outlet that will run with it. A few years ago it would have needed major injuries or significant damage to justify getting a photographer out to a site. Other than in major cases the cause isn't usually reported and it could be that there's an underlying cause, possibly a rise in bad driving by other road users.

From what i can gather in my local area, the number of collisions has not increased, it's more likely fallen. It's just the news gets out further and spreads faster, i think the same can be said for bus fires.

Waited for a service bus to school in the 1960s, the bus didn't turn up and the next one was a little late. Someone asked the taciturn conductor if there'd been a problem. He replied that the missing bus had crashed off the Rochester Way in Eltham Park, through a fence into the back garden of a house. The driver had a suspected fatal heart attack, but no-one else had been injured (there probably wouldn't have been many on board.) I believe it made a tiny para in the local paper the following week.
