Some of you may remember that last year I posted about the Dorset coast re-signalling from Parkstone to Dorchester, but removed it after concerns were raised.
Well its happening again.
The re-signalling of the route between Parkstone & Dorchester will involve the demolition of the following boxes at Poole, Hamworthy, Wareham & Wool with control being formed of a 2nd panel at Bournemouth controlling all the way to Dorchester.

Poole

Planned for Poole is a new trailing crossover at the London end of the station which will provide FULL bi directional signalling for both platforms. One presumes the crossing will be before or after the crossing already installed to enable trains from Bournemouth to crossover into platform 1 at Poole. The sidings are to be fully signalled, whether this means they will relay them as well or sort out the drainage is any bodies guess. The are plans to replace the High street level crossing with an underapass which sounds absolutely ridiculous to me and I hope does not happen.
Hamworthy
The Branch siding at Hamworthy is to be abolished. Its also planned to simplify the signalling of the goods branch. Its not clear if the sidings adjacent to the down main will be abolished as well.

Holton Heath

The long dis-used siding and ground frame at Holton Heath is to be abolished.

Wareham

At Wareham plans are to remove the station foot crossing. The East ground frame and up sidings are to be abolished. Worgret Junction is planned to be fully signalled for passenger trains to and from Furzebrook. Also Wareham station is to be signalled that will allow passenger trains to and from Furzebrook to enter platforms 1 or 2 and if needed head for the down sidings or onwards towards Poole. A new facing crossover will be provided at the Poole end of the station to allow moves around any train sat in platform 2. Its thought the bay platform at Wareham will also be re-laid for trains terminating from Swanage.

Wool

Plans are to remove the need of trains to run to Dorchester to split and run round to gain access to the MOD sidings at Wool, which will include repositioning of the crossover at the Wareham end of the station. The crossings at East Stoke and Rushton will either be closed or converted to Automatic Half Barrier type crossings. There is no mention to re double the track between Moreton and Dorchester South.
This is planned to take place and be up and running before the 2012 Olympics.

Some intresting times lay ahead.

I have to say that I have known that LC at Poole for 40 years or so now, and in my opinion if there was any smidgeon of a possibility of doing anything before then it would have been done. It works all right now that it is effectively a pedestrian-only crossing and you have the footbridge as well.

That foot crossing at Wareham used to be a lot of fun although we only go as far as Poole now.Since Dec 2004 I think it was.
