Anyone know why Dorman is usually preferred for new projects over VMS signals? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both types of LED? I would greatly appreciate any help
I don't know the answer, sorry, but I find it a pleasing thought. As a driver, I find VMS signals absolutely awful to work to at night. Far, far too bright.
In my former area, the only new main aspect and GPL LED signals were Dorman type. Hence I presume that the infrastructure owner (Network Rail RAM) had made the final decision.
Are they? Everywhere I go, it seems to be VMS going in. I suspect that it depends on the contractor. Siemens schemes seem to use VMS.
I think that Dorman produce a signal that is compatible with the old SL35 filament signals, which allows the filament signals to be replaced with LED without changing the circuits.
