Door issues at Lea Bridge

Travelling through to Stratford today on the Greater Anglia line, due to engineering works the trains being used were class 379.

As we were approaching Lea Bridge southbound, the driver stated that "due to a fault with the doors it may take 1 to 2 minutes for the doors to open".

Coming home northbound later in the day the driver stated "the doors may take 1 to 2 minutes to open at Lea Bridge as I have to use a different procedure".

I was just interested as to why the doors took longer to open there, a new station, than any others that was all, does anyone know?

It's something to do with GPS, the Electrostars use GPS to determine which platform they're at and use that to release the correct amount of doors. If they don't have the information then they won't open the doors so the driver has to release them another way.

There was an issue at Victoria when they were first introduced due to losing the GPS signal and had to have a software modification I believe.

The software mod was to introduce PIBS, whereby a baliase can tell the train where it is (Also used for stations with differing lengths of platforms as the GPS is not accurate enough to distinguish between one and another)
