I was under the impression that Irish Rail was 100% DOO except for the cross border Dublin to Belfast locomotive hauled trains and the once a day in each direction Newry stopper between Dundalk and Newry only.
However i have just now seen this video on the youtube (between 01:18 and 01:58 mainly) of a class 22000 at Kilcock station:
In this video you can clearly see what looks like a Guard who steps out of the rear cab as the train arrives and then gives a hand signal to the driver when the train is ready to depart and steps back in the rear cab.
So does anyone know what is the actual status of DOO and Guard operation on Irish Rail currently? I thought that it was 100% DOO (except for those cross border services) but from this video it appears not? So i am presuming certain routes or certain classes still require them? Does anyone have any more information on DOO and Guard operation on Irish Rail currently and which services exactly have Guards still?
Also i am not sure what section of the forum to put this in so feel free to move it if necessary but i have put it in international section for now as i suppose the Republic Of Ireland is officially a different country.
