A few months ago, I undertook a journey for which the off-peak return was £22.80. Unfortunately on the way back there were problems with the line, and they eventually sent me to my destination in a taxi, arriving 2+ hours late. GWR have sent me a cheque for £30 as compensation, but this doesn't fit with their website, which says the compensation will be 50% of a return ticket.

Does anyone know why they've over-compensated me, please?

Something similar happened to me recently. Delayed by about 31 minutes (so only just over the 30 minute threshold) on an anytime single from Didcot to Paddington. The ticket cost about £32-£33 pounds I think. It took ages to be processed, but eventually I got sent a cheque for £40. Can't complain.

I agree with the above. I've had no reply yet for a claim from 3½ weeks ago, though that's nothing compared to Northern who took about 3 months to reply.

My claim took GWR two and a half months to answer, and they sent me a cheque for £30, more than the value of the ticket - I put on the form that I didn't want it by cheque! But oh well.

I'm still waiting for a claim from early July to be paid.

Update: I got more than the price of the ticket in the form of a cheque. I was only expecting half of the value of the ticket.
