Hi all,

I'm new so be gentle!

I'll be shortly moving to Doncaster but am working full time in York (5 days a week).

I have a 16-25 railcard which are not valid on season tickets.

The standard cost for a Doncaster-York season ticket is £172.10.

Are there any options to avoid such a pricey monthly ticket? It's almost a quarter of my wage! The problem with this section of line is that there are no intermediate stations at which to split-ticket it. South Yorkshire Travel Passes wouldn't be any good either I don't think, as Doncaster is very close to the North Yorkshire border.

Any other options for me?

In short, the answer appears to be no.

Compared to individual tickets, the season is is a lot cheaper.

You can get a Cattal to Mexborough at no extra cost, this means that if you ever go to Harrogate it saves a few quid off the fare, it also means you can make a trip to Sheffield for only 4.60.

You may as well get the maximum value from this ticket but I don't think you can make it cheaper.

You would be better off moving to York!

That's the problem with a having a partner who works in Mexborough! ;)

Cheers for the Mex to Cattal tip though - will do that!
