Doncaster to Whitby Bus

Hello, I was looking at this for next midweek catching the 1019 ex Doncaster.
The off peak return is £36, does anyone know if you can get a priv with this and
what bus company runs the 1047 from York to Whitby which arrives at 1308?

I don't think you can get PRIV rate on this ticket, well not according to BRfares. I stand corrected though, If may be cheaper to purchase these fares anyway and travel Doncaster - Scarborough via Hull or Doncaster - York - Scarborough :

Doncaster to Scarborough Any Permitted SVR @ £9.95, and then Scarborough - Whitby ARRIVABUS BusPeriodRtn @ £7.00 (This is full price as no PRIV).

You may be better off buying separate bus and train tickets.

You can pick up the Coastliner at Malton station as well, and it's a spectacular run (especially if you can still get a bus that doesn't serve Goathland village and it's a double decker).

Thanks for replies folks. I'm inclined to get the bus one way and get train back from Whitby or vice-versa for a circular route.

on the Virgin Trains East Coast page it doesn't show fares but Virgin operate a bus from York to Whitby leaving York at 08.26, 10.47 and 14.47.
It shows it as being operated by Virgin on the timetable too.

That's the Coastliner. The service is sponsored by Virgin as a connecting bus link.

I will ask at the ticket office in advance if I can get a priv, there is an anytime day return fare as well as singles so nothing to lose!

Well, as has been mentioned before on this thread, Priv discount is not valid for the bus link (in common with the majority of bus links) so don't be surprised when you don't get the discount.

All the rest of the railcards discount the fares if you put them in so find it a bit odd that a priv wouldn't. I'll ask next time I'm in town at the local station.

That's right, but Priv is not a railcard and is not generally available on bus links

Now had the opportunity to check, and can confirm there are no Priv discounts or any other railcard discounts on the Whitby bus link from York. The same applies to the Arriva operated bus link from Scarborough, which only has a return fare.

The cheapest available fare for the bus link is the fare from York at £6 single, which is substantially cheaper than the normal public fare. There is no fare from Malton as an add-on to the rail fare and the public bus fare from there is £7.40.

Double deckers run into Goathland down the steep hill so avoiding the low bridge, go to the church, turn round and go back the same way.

The Arriva X93 Scarborough-Whitby-Middlesbrough only has a 'day return' fare and not a period. It is unfortunate!
