Doncaster to Swindon

Hi I am looking for some advice might be a little late now.

I am traveling from Woodhouse (WDH) to Swindon but the original plan was to travel to Doncaster on my free pass to meet my friends on a east Coast service from Leeds and travel down together.

my question is would I be able to use my Super offpeak day return between Woodhouse and Retford or would i need to buy a ticket for the route for my main ticket to become valid?

Can you please tell what is printed under From, To, Ticket Type and Route on your "main ticket"?

Good. It's OK to start the journey from Retford with that ticket if you prefer.

But I would still have to pay the relevant price between Woodhouse and Retford? due to it being off the route?

Yes, you would need a separate ticket to Retford.

Actually, you could start a Doncaster-Reading ticket short at Woodhouse if you prefer. It's valid on maps SY+SH+ER to London, and by any permitted route from there to Reading.

On SY you could travel Doncaster-Sheffield via Rotherham (you would miss this bit out). On SH you could travel Sheffield-Retford (starting short at Woodhouse). On ER you could travel down the ECML to London.

If you ask for a ticket from Doncaster to Reading via Woodhouse on Northern Rail's site, it will give you an itinerary for this route. Northern run Doncaster-Lincoln trains which go via Sheffield, so it may not seem like that odd a route anyway.
