Doncaster to Saltburn

I'm going on a little adventure to Saltburn tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some good places to eat and drink to visit? It can be anywhere on the line between Middlesbrough and Saltburn!
My little trip is cover track I'm yet to travel on...itinerary is....
Doncaster-Newcastle
Newcastle-Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough-Saltburn return
Middlesbrough-Darlington
Darlington-Doncaster!

It's all new track for me except the east coast mainline between Doncaster and Newcastle so I'm looking forward to it even though it is a very early start and its gonna be freezing!

Saltburn itself has quite a few chip shops, though I am unsure that's what you're after!

Although I have been there a few times, we did not go to a pub there so cannot comment on that.

I doubt there's anywhere better between Middlesbugger and Saltburn than Saltburn itself, but I know someone who will know so I'll alert him to this thread.

I realise you are doing a much longer journey, but if there's anyone reading this who just wants to do Doncaster - Saltburn, the ludicrous £68.50 cost of a through ticket can be reduced to £30.50 simply by splitting at York, and catching any train from Doncaster to York, providing either the 0926 TPE, or 1001 GC or any subsequent TPE/GC service is caught from York.

That's one of the biggest fare-savers on the network, despite utilising the notoriously expensive Doncaster-York ticket. I think Doncaster-Saltburn must rank as among the worst value fares in the country.

I would echo my learned colleague above Saltburn would be a reasonable choice if you want some places to eat, there's a few pubs and whatnot floating around. I'm not sure what state it's in after the flooding back in September but I'd suggest a visit to the Valley Gardens (turn right out of the station, then left and straight on to the cliff's you can't miss it). Also the cliff lift is worth a visit and I believe would count in our forums mileage competition as it runs on rails

Middlesbrough is your usual run down town and only worth visiting for the Transporter Bridge (though really you want a car for that) or if you want a Burger King or similar. Redcar has the Beacon but you'll live if you miss it. So Saltburn, that's where I'd go.

Just a suggestion, but if your going to be out and about in the North East again sometime in the next week or so, but how about a NE 4 in 8 rover?

Saltburn for fish and chips and a couple if beers it is then!! Thanks for the info about fares etc...... Have got myself a cheap advance to Newcastle £8.45 then a day return Newcastle-Saltburn which is valid either via Hartlepool or Darlington for £14rtn then a advance from Darlington-Doncaster for £6.
I hadn't thought of the North east rover ticket but sadly I have no further time off in the next 8 days!

There is a lovely little cafe in the old station building at saltburn. I did Leeds to saltburn return. Splitting ticket and changing at thornaby. Saved a fair bit
