Doncaster to Brigg ticket withdrawn

Moderator Note - we seem to have two threads about the same thing so I've merged them to avoid duplication.

We would be grateful for some advice please.

We have been advised that the walk on Doncaster to Brigg day return ticket via Retford has been withdrawn.

This involved catching.

0924 Doncaster to Retford Hull Trains
1028 Retford low level to Brigg Northern
1349 Brigg to Retford low level Northern
1450 Retford to Doncaster LNER.

Looks like the only way that you can make this journey is by buying each ticket as shown above which cost more than the day return, which was £14.90 for an adult and £9.80 with a railcard.

According to National Rail on their Twitter page customers have to get in contact with the train operators to lodge a complaint, but there's 3 of them involved here ?

Can you just buy it from a machine that doesn't require it to be bought against an itinerary?

The GWR mixing deck booking engine still allows it to be booked via Retford as far as I can see.

It seems that northern have removed a Doncaster to Brigg ticket. Meaning any passengers wanting to go from Doncaster to Brigg now have to but split tickets meaning it more expensive. Could any of you check this out and please let me know so I can get in contact with northern about this. Much appreciated.

Still seem to be available. £14.60 for an Anytime Day Single and £14.90 for an Anytime Day Return. Presume you're not trying to buy when there's no service to Brigg?

The Northern website will sell both, what ticket do you think has been removed?

It seems that northern have removed a Doncaster to Brigg ticket.

It isn't even priced by Northern, but by LNER, so not Northern's to remove anyway.

We've made further enquiries and it looks like that this seems to be an issue with buying the ticket from certain train operating companies apps.

LNER is saying it can't find the return working.

And the northern app will not let you proceed.

That is odd. As you say, it isn't even that Northern's app says 'no fares available'. It won't even move past the search page.

The TrainSplit app doesn't offer it either - if set to flexible tickets only, cheapest option it offers is Doncaster to Gainsborough plus Gainsborough to Brigg day returns at £26.30 in total.

I've just got the £14.90 on the Northern website, the train timings seem to be paramount here.

Yes its booked me on the 0947 EMR to Gainsboro, then walk to Gains central etc

It's nothing new, trust me.

This is fairly standard of the railway in general. There is no incentive to look into what’s going wrong here, regardless of who is to “blame” and there clearly hasn’t been since at least July last year.

It’s a real shame that we notice when the railway does something that we should take for granted.

Based on what I've read and ny understanding of what I have read, that post, formerly known as a tweet, from Northern, on X formerly known as Twitter, is shockingly poor.

Someone either can't be bothered to look into this or they don't understand their job and I'm referring to the team it was passed over to. I would not expect social media staff to understand all of this.

Perhaps all the people who understand this stuff don't work for Nothern any more, if they ever did.

If I'm being unfair and harsh then let me know. I understand people make mistakes but the response doesn't answer the question, so I don't see how it can be a mistake.

They don’t know the answer and, rather than find out, they make something up which sounds vaguely plausible.

It’s an attitude which is endemic on the railways.

That makes rhe repomse from Nothern even more poor and rubbish if the ticket can be purchased through the GWR Web site.

I wonder if anyone who has the power to do anything about it cares, as opposed to those who care but don't have the power? I appreciate there are also those who neither have the power nor care.
