Doncaster avoiding lines

Moving from North to South:
  • South Yorkshire Joint Railway - Barnby Dunn to Shireoaks.
  • Doncaster Avoiding line - between Hexthorpe junction & Bentley junction
  • Unknown name line - Carcroft/Skellow Junction to Hatfield & Stainforth
Are any of these lines used much? I assume they all still open to traffic? I assume the SY Joint is rarely used beyond the Iport?

Does anyone know the current position or ideas for future use?

I'm sure the section of the South Yorkshire Joint Line between Kirk Sandal & St.Catherines Jn. has been put out of use.

  • South Yorkshire Joint Railway - Barnby Dunn to Shireoaks.
Looking at Berth Data, appears to be unused from Kirk Sandall Jn to Low Ellers Curve Jn. Trains run from Doncaster area to Iport and Maltby, with through traffic from Toton/Mountsorrel to Doncaster and beyond via Shireoaks.
  • Doncaster Avoiding line - between Hexthorpe junction & Bentley junction
Used by regular traffic, several trains per day in each direction.
  • Unknown name line - Carcroft/Skellow Junction to Hatfield & Stainforth
Used eastbound by about 1train per day, used westbound by about 1 train per week. More traffic joins the line at Applehurst Jn (from the ECML) and Thorpe Marsh Jn (from Knottingley via the Flyover).

All lines technically still open, I think Kirk Sandall Jn - Low Ellers Curve Jn is not immediately usable but not techincally closed (it's got 'Shut' in the berth, at least).

Presumably much as they are.

Just picking up on this bit, I am sure I read somewhere on here (quite recently) that this part is closed and out of use for at least a couple of years ago, due in part to persistent vandalism (and at a guess demand for that route - being single track throughout). Being local to me, I am aware of a number of areas that could be susceptible to a combination of either direct vandalism (or littering) or being quite remote also to cable theft. Seems a shame as well, as a lot of money was spent updating a bridge near Doncaster where the railway goes over a dual carriageway.

thanks chaps - interesting - clearly these lines are a bit of a hold over from the mining industry of the past in the area.
