Did my eyes deceive me or was there a single Dogbox (153) going through Wigan Northwestern at Approximately 16:52 Southbound this evening. i was stood waiting for a Kirkby Train at Wallgate but it certainly looked like a 153?

Hence the reason they would never be diagrammed on a Blackpool North to Liverpool Lime Street service!

Since when ? 153s were used fairly often a few years ago when there was a Morecambe - Liverpool service (and often late due to overcrowding).
A restriction was placed by Network Rail on class 153 and class 155 trains between Springs Branch Jn and Huyton Jn due to 'gauge clearance issues' at Bryn station. This took effect from late June 2014 and continues until further notice. (From our weekly operating notice).

Thanks for the info. Presumably a consequence of the platform rebuilding last year ?
I suspect so yes, although the insert doesn't state that specifcally nor any specific reason but I guess so.
