Does the NMT follow a timetable?

Hi all, Long time luker first time poster.

Does the Flying Banana follow a timetable? I'd quite like to get a few photos/footage of it going through my local station.

If anyone could refer me to a timetable; of just when it's next going through Havant and Bedhampton; that'd be great! :)

Alright, something like the Portsmouth Direct is bound to have a regular one booked due to the sheer frequency of trains.

It doesn't run to a specific long term timetable as such, although it will traverse its regular routes a set number of times a year, within a specific window. Frequency is determined by tonnage, speed etc of the route in question. Timings may also be affected by planned maintenance, failure of the other track recording units (the modified Sprinter and the loco hauled set, if it's still in use).

Not sure if Netto Rail would be willing to share the timings with you. You could try contacting their infrastructure HQ in Derby. Maybe you know someone in one the train operating, civil engineering or other contractors that could pass on the info for you?

I'm not sure NMT actually visits the South Western Division, test trains are normally a pair of 73s, though I have seen the odd 31 in the past.

I'm fairly sure I've heard tales of the NMT having to stop at Havant and go up the PDL, because it's not cleared for the West coastway.

It's a shame if it doesn't go down there, an HST anywhere in that neck of the woods is a rarity, let alone a bloody bright yellow one.

Going by that diagram 445driver has posted, if it's a case of simply reverting to the first week after week four it looks like it doesn't touch the PDL at all which is what I thought.

I think the above has tried to explain that it doesn't cover the Portsmouth Direct usually. That doesn't mean it won't ever appear, but it isn't ever planned, so you'd wait a long time for it to happen.

I've seen it returning from a trip down to Weymouth from Basingstoke, but it doesn't normally do that either.

Looks like it is on Week 1 of that timetable at the moment, looks to be running down the S&C and past my house today.

Does anyone know if the HST set itself is in play, or if it is a pair of 67s today?

There are other trains in the fleet that cover other areas. All running lines will have a recording train run to supply data of the track under load. NMT covers all mainline routes, and then there is the TIC - track recording coach and TRU - track recording unit. There is also the PLPR - plain line pattern recognition trains although the system is also on the NMT and the ultrasonic test trains, radio survey train, structures gauging trains etc.

Can anyone shed some light on the drivers of this train? They seem to be passed out for some very exclusive routes i.e the recent visit of the NMT to Oban. Would this have been covered by a driver taking instruction from a local driver? I can't see any local drivers being traction trained for an HST 125!

That could be the case, as the NMT's visit back in May was the first time a HST had ever visited the West Highland Line, as far as I'm aware.

It was a one off thing. Had never seen a HST at Cleethorpes, let alone the NMT. As I live in Cleethorpes I'm sure I'll find out in advance when its next due.
We do get occasional test trains (31s, 37s or 950001) although we haven't had one of late.

Thanks, as far as I knew HST haven't visited Grimsby since the 80s.
