Hi all,

Does anyone here play Euro Truck Simulator 2?

Recently bought the game on Steam and found it very addictive but would appreciate any advice regarding the mods that are available or any general tips for getting the most from the game.

Yep, I've been playing for a couple of months and have racked up ~150 hours in it, I find it completely addicting as well!

I've mainly got Map mods, because I'm more interested in the exploring bit than the actual trucks. Here are the mods I have on at the moment, or ones I have previously used.

ProMods - The first mod I used, creates new towns in Europe (including Croydon and Portsmouth in the UK), and a whole new map for France and Scandinavia (all of Denmark, and a lot of Sweden/Norway/Finland). Also fixes a lot of the dud signs in UK and Western Europe, which is nice. Also note that you have to create an account for this one, but it's quick and worth it.

Realistic Lighting - Definitely worth it, makes the nights longer (10pm to 4am nights all the time is quite unrelalistic), and the sunsets/sunrises are really pretty. Goes with all the other mods I have which is useful.

Trucksim - Map 5.3.1 - An absolutely HUGE map that I'm currently exploring. You have to have the Going East DLC for this (worth the purchase IMO), and it adds on Slovenia/Croatia/Albania, as well as a little bit of Denmark, Southern Italy, loads of France and the entirety of Spain/Portugal. In addition to this, it even gives you Northern Africa; Morocco/Algeria/Libya/Egypt. Definitely worth a check out. This cannot be used with ProMods, because of the overlap on Denmark.

RusMap 1.4.7 - A map for Russia (as well as a couple of towns in Belarus), which is pretty neat. This can be used in conjunction with either ProMods or TruckSim 5.3.1 above, which gives you a massive map.

Those are all the mods I have. You'll need WinZip to access them.

Some of the mods will install for you (your EuroTruckSim directory the folder called 'Euro Truck Simulator 2' in your documents. If you unzip it, and there are some ".scs" files, then copy them and paste them into "My Documents -> Euro Truck Simulator 2 -> mod". Activate them by selecting "edit profile" on the start screen and ticking them from there. It should be noted that it will significantly increase the initial loading time, and makes my laptop freeze for about 30 seconds on the first load.

My only other tip to enjoying the game is not to take it too seriously!

I've been using ETS2 for a couple of years now, though I'm currently not using it much until I get a new computer.


In terms of truck mods, a few of my favorites are:

GT Mike's MAN TGS Euro 5, though this doesn't work properly with the current patch (there are texture problems), but there is an update in the pipeline. Also keep an eye out for his upcoming Scania Insane Mod, which I am very much looking forward to (especially for the P series).

Ohaha's FH2013 is another very good one, with very regular updates, improvements and additions.

RJL's Scania T series, which is just plain awesome.

Flemming V's BDF Tandem Truck Pack, for those who like rigids and drawbars.


Personally, I'd recommend just browsing the SCS Software forums to find what you like the look of, as there are so many people out there making really good mods for all sorts of different tastes.

Like I said on the screenshot thread, I really need to get back into ETS2 - I absolutely love the game, but it's finding the time to get out there and put the time into it. I've not really even got to any of the management aspects of the game yet, so I've got a lot left to do.

Just discovered I can convert my retail version of the game to Steam and get automatic updates - a greater incentive to play more often

Definitely worth putting it on Steam, I don't know if there are achievements on the disc version, but I'm slowly working my way towards them on Steam!

The retail versions don't have the achievements - so another big plus for getting it converted to Steam. You can also just pick up where you left off, as it uses the same folder for saves. I might finally get around to exploring the 'Going East' DLC in the next couple of days - that's how far behind I am

Registered on Steam and got the ProMods DLC - a new lease of life for ETS2! Have spent many hours behind the wheel (literally a wheel - Logitech G27) listening to the radio this week.

Found a few good mods and really enjoying playing ETS at the moment but would love some UK-based mods if there are any available?

For example:

Trailers – supermarkets, etc. – ASDA, Tesco.
Petrol stations – Shell, B.P., Esso.
Hotels – Travelodge, Premier Inn.
Deliveries to supermarkets, retailers, etc. – ASDA, Tesco, etc. – have only noticed IKEA and ALDI so far.

Also - which map has the most UK towns and cities available?

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

ProMods adds a fair few UK cities with a good level of detail - Portsmouth has the Spinnaker tower for example.
