Hello,

Posting this on behalf of someone else, who's doing a PhD at King's College London:

The tl;dr version is that there's a survey to complete, the data from which will be used to analyse the roll of celebrity opinion/activism in influencing public political debate: http://celebritysurvey.co.uk. There's a prize draw for people who complete it, should take about 20 mins but can be completed in multiple sittings.

Do you care what celebrities say? Do they influence your behaviour or opinions in any way? I am a Phd student at King's College London writing a research project on the power of celebrity to influence and govern public behaviour around particular issues. We are looking for volunteers to participate in a survey about celebrity activism and its influence on your understanding around particular issues. This research will help develop an understanding of the power celebrities may hold to govern the way we understand and behave around particular issues such as animal welfare or international development.

The survey takes around 20mins to complete, it doesn't have to be completed in one go, and there are prizes to be won from iPod Touch to Amazon vouchers. If you could spare any time to fill in a survey I would really appreciate it and please feel free to pass it on to anyone you know who would be able to fill it in!

You can find the survey here....

http://celebritysurvey.co.uk

The questionnaire explores your knowledge, understanding and relationship to the growing importance of celebrity activists in the UK.
It is divided into 3 sections: 1) general questions about your awareness and engagement with celebrity culture and activists, 2) questions about celebrity chefs and food politics, and 3) questions about celebrity charity ambassadors and care. The survey is made up mainly of multiple choice questions, with some short answer questions, asking you to think about your awareness and opinion around celebrity today. If you love them, hate them, or have no idea who most of them are, we want to hear from you and what you think!

People I admire and respect yes, but this is often something I also do such as my guitar. I greatly admire Matt K Heafy from Trivium, so when he talks about guitars I listen and follow some of his tips and stuff. His views on the world would not necessarily influence mine, but as a fan of his I'd pay attention and listen out of curiosity.

People like Jordan are wasted on me

I wonder why females having breast implants to a ridiculous level means a need to be taking the name of a middle-East country. I wonder if there are any other similar females with names like Syria or Lebanon of which we are still to hear..<(

Katy Price I don't admire in any way.

You do however have to admire whoever is responsible for her publicity.
Look what they've got to work with - talentless slapper, thick as s***
and look what results they get - she's worth millions.
Minor miracle...

People who are famous for being famous are what I don't get.
Who the hell are the Kardashians? Why are they in the limelight so much???

Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
I listen to celebrities the same way I do with religion, IE not at all.

I often wonder what my life could have been like if I'd followed the crowd at school. I'm so glad I didn't. Reality TV "stars", footballers and American pop "stars" do not interest me in the slightest. :)

Being the "old fogey" that I am, I telephoned my youngest son with this question, assuming that they were a minor sect based in the Middle East from the sound and the spelling of the name, but he laughingly informs me that they are an American family with the inability to spell words correctly, as proved by their naming of two daughters as Khloe and Kourtney....:D

And there was me thinking that they were an enemy of the Doctor that I'd somehow managed to miss..:D:D:D

It depends on who you count as a celebrity, what they are saying and whether I agree with their point of view. For example, I would take David Attenborough's views on an environmental issue fairly seriously (yes, he's a TV presenter, but he also knows a lot about his subject, as much as the people at my old Zoology Department). Similarly, current or former sports people on their relevant sport might well be taken seriously. However, once people stray outside their area, 'you should listen to me because I'm famous', is a very fatuous attitude and not worth considering. Once you demonstrate your expertise, you are worth listening to.

I can't help thinking of spoon-headed reptiles with a lisp whenever I hear that name.

I was considering it - but creating an account and divulging my e-mail address seems to be a lot for an anonymous survey.

Was disappointed it wasn't a survey about brad products too - seems to be actaully be about the role of celebs. <D

Mind you, if they can make a couple of millions by simply sticking their face on adverts or having a camera crew follow them around, and live their life not having to worry about money or making decisions cause people do it for them, then good luck to them tbh.
Same with footballers, if you're lucky enough to get paid that amount just for to do your hobby, well, why not enjoy it while you can.
