Do threads on this forum automatically lock after a certain time period?

Hi all. Just a quick question. Whenever i search for something on this forum and find old threads from a few years ago they always seem to be locked so it's not possible to reply to them. So i am wondering do threads automatically lock after a certain time period? If so what is that period? Is it after 365 days of no new posts or something like that? Many thanks.

Threads are locked manually on a periodic basis. Digging up old threads is not permitted as that can cause confusion unless there is a new development or substantial contribution to be made, in which case contact forum staff in the first place.

Alternatively make a new thread and link to the previous one.
