I have a National Rail ticket with destination London Underground Zone 1-2. I'm arriving at Liverpool Street and my final destination is Greenwich, so that will probably require an out-of-station interchange at Canary Wharf from Elizabeth Line to DLR. Should I be worried about my paper ticket being retained by the fare gate when exiting the EL at Canary Wharf? I'm aware the DLR does not have fare gates so I wouldn't need the ticket to get on, but I still wouldn't want to travel without my ticket on me in case of an inspection.

That should be fine. It's an interchange station so should not be retaining U-zone tickets.
In my experience Elizabeth Line barriers don't retain these tickets even when they have no further validity (e.g. Manchester to Zones U1234 is not retained when exiting at Abbey Wood). I don't know if that's universally true of all TfL barriers, but it seems to be the way things work on the EL core.

On this particular trip, my ticket didn't actually end up working at the EL gates at all (I believe it was error code 03), so I had to be waved through by the gate staff at both ends. Not sure why, as my outbound ticket (originating at U12) had worked perfectly fine, but oh well.
