Do you mean LOM (Local Operations Manager) or MOM (Mobile Operations Manager)?

Usually LOMs get a car or at least access to a pool car. It’s an office based management role so most wear smart business clothes, a suit or the smart version of the uniform. Ties have been optional at Network Rail since Iain Coucher was CEO (he didn’t like them).

MOMs will have a small or medium van, or a 4x4. Dress is anything from ripped jeans and a band t-shirt to three piece suit depending on the individual and the occasion!

All the LOMs in my area drive small NR vans.

I’ve never seen them in suits, just standard smart casual shirt and jeans type affairs - but they do go for a slightly smarter look if they’ll be in meetings with their boss, or interviewing.

Must say in my area I’ve never seen a LOM in jeans! I suppose it depends on what standard the OM for the area expects of them.

It’s all daft in this day and age anyway

LOMs will all have access to a company vehicle of some description, even if they’re based in the inner city. Not always for their personal or exclusive use however

LOMs on my patch are allocated a small Network Rail van in case they need to take up any duties normally done by the MOM.

Dress code wise, I've seen the LOMs on my patch in everything from jeans and a polo shirt right the way up to a full suit regardless of where they are. Generally if they're dressed any smarter than business casual then they're interviewing or being interviewed for something, and even then its not uncommon to see them in smart casual instead.
