Good morning, here's one for the experts. It strikes me as a bit complicated and I genuinely don't know whether I have a valid claim. I'd like to know before submitting, as I could see this one going to appeal.
Intended journey (it was yesterday 11 Aug)
Taunton 20.48
London Paddington 22.29
London Paddington 22.44 (last Elizabeth line service Eastbound on a Sunday)
Woolwich 23.09
Actual journey
Taunton 20.54 (6 late)
London Paddington 22.41 (12 late, so not a big delay and not in itself qualifying for delay repay - but see the knock on effects!)
Last Elizabeth line missed, staff by entrance said to go Bakerloo to Baker St, Jubilee to Canary Wharf then DLR to Woolwich
Do as told, but approaching Bond St realise there is no DLR from Canary Wharf to Woolwich, have to change at Poplar, re-route via Central line to Bank.
At Bank station, go down to DLR and see no Woolwich trains shown - ask staff, saying what happened and I was told to use DLR (which is true).
They said no DLR all weekend Poplar to Woolwich and no replacement buses (due to river?) - have to use alternative route.
They said to go to London Bridge as last trains of night were 23.44 and 23.48 to Woolwich Arsenal
Arrive London Bridge about 23.30, neither of these 2 trains listed, but there is an 00.01 - so got that.
Finally got into Woolwich 00.29 (that's time on bus stop clock when I left station, can get a more precise time somewhere but it won't be far off)
Tickets held
Super-off peak return London Terminals to Taunton - this is £98 and some pence, so is a fairly high value claim.
This is where the complication comes - London operates a PAYG system, so no ticket will be held until you start your journey cross-London - it's an unusual sort of split
So is there a claim and who caused the delay?
As far as I am aware, TFL claims are very rarely valid, so only really a prospect if it's a claim to GWR.
GWR were not 15 minutes late.
However, their delay caused a knock-on missed connection.
Is this still covered as a through journey for delay repay when i) the onward leg is on Elizabeth Line (this is a national rail service but has a 'complicated' status) and ii) the onward leg is on TFL?
Do I somehow need to disentangle what the impact of GWR's delay and TFL's incorrect advice was? Or could I potentially claim for the total impact - despite part of it being totally outside GWR's control? I'm aware the norm is the full delay but not sure as TFL were involved.
How to submit
And if it is a valid claim, how do I submit to GWR? It's certainly not a straightforward one, especially on the form with no free text, and what to do about where the ticket was to and ticket type - as it involved PAYG?
