Do guards get commision?

When selling tickets etc on trains, do the guards on the service get a commission on tickets they sell?

Yes they do

Not across the board, some do and some don't.

There are variations within the same company in some cases.

Some do, some don't. At East Midlands Trains, the Conductors get commission but the Train Managers don't.

XC are. Think it's 5%

TPE are. It's 6%

That said both those operators have ticket selling facilities at nearly every (95%) of stops, so sales technically are falling on board. That said, some are still cashing machines in after shift with quite a bit on them.

There can also be differences on whether the commission is done on the money the TOC actually gets for each ticket or whether it's on the face value of the tickets sold.

You will on almost any train outside of London. There will always be those with 1) no or 2) invalid tickets.
