Do any TOCs still use paper window destination labels?

On the more glamorous long distance routes enthusiasts & the like would have helped as they often kept them as a souvenir especially the names examples.

And there in lies the problem today !! Most named examples can be found easily enough, the run of the mill working not so much now

Why did BR not really use the metal signs that the Continent did?

The Western Region used plastic destination panels from perhaps the 60s into the 70s. I can't find an actual picture of one so here's a model of one.

Wasn't there an accident awhile back where an accumulation of old paper labels jammed the door lock?

Thinking further about this, wasn't this why they introduced the plastic holders on the sliding doors with the carriage-key-operated thingy to change the carriage letter (on the class 158s at least)?

I may be wrong, but don't Scotrail use them on their HSTs?

Never seen one on the HSTs.

ScotRail used vinyl for the classic HSTs which stuck to the windows. On the refurbs, there's a paper label holder at the end most windows in each carriage (attached).
