of course its great to see a passenger trying to shut a window then it props back open lol.

There is downsides to a T-key operated 158 window, such instance was when I went to Brighton in Wessex days on the stupid O' clock from Westbury (something like 5am) and ALL the hoppers were open, this being the winter mind! The guard finally came around to lock the windows at Salisbury, so for the 20-30 miles I was sat in the dark and freezing cold!!!

One thing about this picture, it being three cars. Are they all 3 cars, or some anyway, or is the one on the back something different, or is it 1 1/2 sets?

I dunno why, but there's just something doesnt seem quite right about the last car.

The Class 158 units normally operate in 3 car sets like is shown in the picture.

However the last carriage is rather blackened and looks really bad. It is possiable it might have been involved in a fire at some point but didn't sustain any internal damage other than a blackened outside. It does appear that this last car did come from another set that was partly destroyed in the past.

This 3 car set is made up of the only 3 class 158s that are still usable. No other train service in Thailand uses class 158s. This 3 car set makes a single round trip to Sawan Khalok in northern Thailand each day.

There future with SRT seems bleak as half of the fleet class 158 has been lost so far. The twisted remains of a Class 158 sits just past the end of the rail yard at Hualamphong station in bangkok where it has been for years. SRT appears to have used the remains of that set for spares to keep the 3 units in the picture working longer.

See Attached Picture of Last car of the DMU its not a good image sorry but is a closer shot of it.

The class 158 DMUs are worked very hard with SRT id say even harder than the Class 158s in the UK. As that 3 car set is run 7 days a week year round and clocks up close to 1000km of track distance every single day.

Basically all SRT DMUs are worked until they finally fall apart or are lost to accidents over the years. There are DMUs from over 40 years ago still providing daily long distance services in thailand all be it with broken doors and lights and regular engine problems but you must give SRT work shop staff credit they can keep these old DMUs going with nothing more than some old oil and scraps of metal.

Thanks for the information on the "black ring around the car end doors" They have open inter car walkways on all Thai DMUs. It is the place where smokers spend there time as its open air.

Thanks for clearing that up :)

And id agree that it looks like it isnt originally from that train.
